My friend who works at a honda motorcycle dealership said that they have had to replace a bunch of carbs recently because the alcohol in the gas us eating the rubber in the carbs. He said that I should put fuel stabilizer in the gas in order to prevent it. Anyone heard anything like this?

yeah stay away from e-85. Our bikes are not made for it.

unless your vehicle is designed for e-85, do not use it.
ethanol for one draws water into the tank. it also is very rough on rubber and aluminum.
and i do not support the use of foodstuffs as a fuel anyways.

I have to agree...working for NAPA auto parts...we warned people about using ethanol products with out upgrading all the rubber and neoprene in the fuel system.there are kits out there to upgrade your gaskets floats, needle and seats, and fuel line...to accept ethanol.

There are some older bikes out there that might have a problem with this, but as most gas that contains ethenol only has about 10% alcohol most modern carbs should be OK.

Adding a fuel stabilizer however seems kinda silly as your just adding more crap to the gas...some of them contain crap that is worse than alcohol.

e-85 of course is 85% alcohol and 15 percent gas..not reccomended at all to use in gas motors without extensive modification. If this is what those Honda riders are sticking in their tanks, I would bet they have problems.

The Vulcan can run gas with 10% ethonal and suffer no issues. I would however suggest using Sea Foam in the tank now and then to keep eveything in the system clean.
