I stopped at the shop today to see what's up with my bike.
The service guy looks back into the shop and says "Well, the mechanics off today"
GREAT! I figure I gotta wait still another day.
He then starts going through the job sheets and finds mine.
"Oh, it's done."

FINALLY !!!!

When I first asked them about what it'd cost for changing out the stator, they said around $450-$500. I figured it might be a little more.
So I ask what the damages are.
He punches a few keys on the 'puter ..... ..... ..... "Looks like it's $354" (or something around there)

WOW, not what I was expecting to hear, but was certainly happy to hear !!
I woulda picked it up right then, but was on my way to work so I told him I'd get it tomorrow (Thurs).
Ordered a new rear tire while I was there (another Dunlop Elite II) and the parts guy mentioned he had heard they may stop making the Elite II's, because of the Elite III's. But the III's aren't raised white lettered !?
Guess I'll have to find some other type if I wanna stick with the RWL tires.

Oh, yeah, and now that I'll have my bike back, the next few days are expected to have rain !!

It's always sumthin' !!! But atleast I'll have my bike back !!:motorcycl

Glad to hear you got her back. I get to change my stator out next week. Yea!!! I figure that I will pull the engine all the way out and give her a good cleaning and paint the engine and frame. Do a little of wire concealment. Oh I almost forgot change the stator while I got it out. It's going to be a lot of work, but the monster-in-law will be visiting and it will keep me busy. See everything happeneds for a reason.

Congratulations!....

...on returning to the world of two-wheeled fun!!!......:D

In your case, what do you think was the major factor (besides too much heat) that fried your stator? Too much idle time in traffic by the bike's PO? Or something else?

What's the mileage now on your bike? Is the new one a Kaw stator--or another brand?

LOL!! Maybe you can have her help ya !!

I don't use the bike much for commuting, mostly cruising, so I don't think it was due to idling too much. The previous owner did have an extra set of tail lights on it, but I took those off shortly after I got it.
In the year before it went out, I did do alot of longer distance riding every Sunday (atleast 300mi, and one ride around PA for about 1000mi).
I should be smacked upside the head for this, but.... I know I didn't do as many oil changes as I should have. I think that had alot to do with it. :BLAM:
The bikes got about 32K on it now (had 7k when I got it)
The new stator is a Rick's brand.

Rare indeed !!! The weather channel is now saying scattered rain FOR A WEEK !!
My rain gear just may get a good workout this weekend!!

Congrats!

Oops, sorry about that. I did hold off from washing my truck, hoping that would keep the rain away, but it didn't

I detailed my bike last weekend. It's my fault. "detailed my bike" in indian means "rain dance". Been raining ever since.
LOL, .... 'Vegetarian' in Indian means 'Bad Hunter' !! LOL (sorry, read that on a T-shirt today!)

Thanks for taking the rain blame Fergy! They're calling for scattered shower/thunderstorms here, and my rear tire is pretty worn, so I think I'll skip riding the bike to work tonight.

And speaking of my bike, the final damages to the wallet for the stator change came to $387.
I supplied the stator, gaskets oil & filter.
All in all, I'm happy with the cost.

And, just before I left the shop, the mechanic handed me the bevel gearcase gasket (p/n 11060-1086), saying he didn't need it.
So, if anyones needing one of those, drop me a PM. I also have an extra set of Hardley exhaust crush gaskets (2 pcs. in the set).
$6 for either one, shipping included.

EDIT: Exhaust and bevel gasket are spoken for.

Good deal on the bike being ready. Darn the bad luck on the rain. If it's warm enough heck why not ride anyway?

If the new tire comes in, I most likely will take it out... rain or shine !!!
But as low as the tire is now, rain = no ride.
My one buddy is gonna be racing a GNCC ATV race about 35 mile from me on Saturday and I'd like to take the bike to that, but gotta see how 'scattered' they're calling for the showers to be then.
