I bought my first "large' bike a couple of weeks ago - a Vulcan 750. Previous bikes were '67 Honda 305 Scrambler and '80 Suzuki GSL 450, both sold in 2001. Been "bikeless" until the 750. It is a used 2004 and has a very small windshield. Looking for a larger one, I came across a fairing - minus the mounting hardware - at a local dealer. He said he ordered a 750 with the Kawasaki offered touring package - fairing and bags - on a new bike 5 to 10 years ago. The buyer didn't want the fairing, so it was removed prior to sale. Over the years the mounting hardward has been lost. The fairing has no identification on it. Does anyone know what manufacturer made the Kawasaki-offered touring packages during the period 1996 - 2001? I'm trying to find the mounting hardware before I decide to buy the fairing. Thanks!

Chances are you would have to fabricate the mounting hardware. Vetter Fairings, especially the police fairings come the closest.
I do have the full instructions for installing the fairing if that would help

Thanks, Dianna. I'll check on hardware prices and decide. If I buy the fairing I will probably need instructions and will get back to you. Thanks for replying. (Personal note: My daughter is in graduate school at UCA!)

A few of us who have the fairing might be interested in having a "spare" since we already have the mounting brackets. If you decide not to get it, let me know -- I would be interested, and maybe JD also.... Where are you located?

I'm located in Lufkin, TX. Do you know who made the mounting brackets & fairings for Kawasaki? Does the mounting hardware have any identification markings on it?

Geez, I ain't been on here in just over a year and a half!

I don't think Vetter made it. Vetter was bought out by Bell (helmets, etc.) in the early '80s, and was effectively out of business by the middle/late '80s. The TourPak fairings weren't available by the time Vetter was gone. I haven't been able to find anything on who was contracted by Maw Kaw to make the things for them. Of course, I haven't yet contacted Maw Kaw herself in Lincoln yet, either...

As far as the hardware for mounting the fairing, you _might_ come across some of it in bits and pieces at a dealer _somewhere_, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I'd definitely be interested in picking the fairing up if you decide not to, Walter. If you _do_ decide to get it, I can probably make up some crude dimensioned drawings of the mounting hardware. Mine is currently off the bike while I repair the fairing and get it ready for paint.

Contact me backchannel at [email protected], if you would, Walter, and I'll give you my cell number. I've got a couple questions, and maybe some answers that might help. Also, I go thru Lufkin the first and fourth day of every 6. I'm due thru there Saturday night at 8:10 p.m. on the way to Houston from Shreveport, then Tuesday morning at 7:35 a.m. on the way to Shreveport.

On the subject of fairings.....

  1. How do those that have them like/dislike the headlight not moving with the steering now?
  2. Does it make night riding anymore difficult?
  3. How much of a noticeable difference is there due to weight & aerodynamics
Just curious.
