I had made up my mind not to add to this thread, but this is wrong.

Common forged pistons start to deform @ about 1450*. A heavily nitrous ed sbf I was asked to look at logged EGT's of 1680*. It melted the piston, uninstalled the replaceable exhaust valve seat and destroyed the top 6" of the header tubing.

edit- a ox-acetylene torch melts good steel @ 3000*.

I'm thinking they aren't talking about the temp of interior metal surfaces but the actual temperature of combustion.

If some folks would stop going to Google and Wikipedia so they can throw that info into a forum to make them look like a know it all, and just start using personal experience and trustworthy data, factual evidence (and not opinion) people probably wouldn't argue so much.

Just sayin.

Touchez brother !....well said !....

....and with that, Im gonna temporarily lock this untill I can weed out whats what......and there WILL be another thread started, with posts moved to it about any discussions. But this thread will be ONLY about the mod itself and the results. I will reopen it when Chuck is ready to post his findings.

The winter's been tough on all of us guys....we're all gettin antsy and ornery....lets try to keep things civil for a week or 2....heck, its already Ash Weds....
