unfortunately, if the female coupler on the end of the shaft is worn out, them most likely the male portion on the rear hub is as well. It has been our experience that the rear hub has to be replaced (male does not detach from hub), very pricey if new, and the female coupler comes off the end of the shaft. The female can be had new for $70-$80. The shaft new is over $220, but not needed. The hard part is getting the rear hub. I just replaced mine last summer. Only needed to be lubed with each tire change, but after 65,000 miles, mine had been ignored far too long.
