I'm new to this and not sure if this has been covered before, but I'm getting a
rattle that sounds like it's coming from the crank case area. I hear it when the engine is warmed up at higher RPMS. It's not a knocking, but sounds more like something is loose like a cable is whipping.

Two thoughts come to mind. First one being the cam chain, try the Grambo trick first with the acct. (Quick search should find it) The second would be the dampeners, which you should drain the oil and look for shavings. Other than that, One of us would have to hear it and diagnose.

BTW welcome to the madness!!

It is more than likely your rear automatic cam chain tensioner called ACCT. I've found that the front one when loose sounds like a tick or clack. The rear one made my bike sound like all the adjoining parts in the crankcase and tranny were bone dry and loose. After I fixed the front acct, I figured these were just noisey engines and I'd have to live with it but then after doing the rear one I couldn't believe how much quiter it is now. I'm on my phone and can't paste the links but if you search the forums, look for "grambo" method or fix (a free fix you can try now) or "TOC mcct" or the mod I just did "my acct to mcct conversion" a fix for less than 20 bucks to do both front and rear. Good luck,
Dave

try taking the cap screw off the acct with the engine running and watch the screw inside and see if it jumps as you hear the noise. careful putting the capscrew on DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN IT, it only needs to be snugged up the metal is very soft.

Heat Shield Rattle

Thanks for the replies guys. I took it to a local mechanic. The noise was a heat shield. Glad it was nothing a crowbar couldn't fix. Bike runs good and I'm back to riding with confidence knowing nothing is wrong. thanks again and ride safe

Why weren't the rest of us this lucky? LOL

The grambo works as does the TOC replacement kit. The kit made a huge difference and was easy to do in 30 minutes for both. they have a great website with video on how to do it.
