few months ago bought an 02 VN750. Had mechanic change all fluids and it runs like a champ. Bought V&H Cruzers and K&N Filters (for stock ears) and installed. Also did a re jet using #135. Mechanic says he set mixture screws out 1 3/4 turns. Sounds, from I what I read here, to be lean. At start up, it cranks like a mad mama, ready to go. Accelerates great. When I get to about 40-45 + and level out (cruising) it begins to feel like a slight miss. It's not a jerk, more of a noticable blip. Hold it steady, it keeps on blipping.
What dost thou thinkest?

Thanks,
RR

sounds like the vent hose in the right ear is plugged.. try cutting it at a 45 degree angle and see if that makes the problem go away.. if not.. try adjusting the carbs to 2 to 2 1/2 turns

Hey SlimV,

I'm not very mechanical. Are you saying to just remove the end attached to the ear and cut the tip at an angle? What does that do? Not doubting, just curious.

Thanks,

The carbs have vent hoses attached to them, these vent hoses go into a "T" and the output of that "T" goes into the right ear. If the hose bottoms out, it'll get plugged and the carbs can't "breathe" and bad stuff starts happening.

On a second note, that sounds like when my bike needs to go to fuel reserve. Which also makes me think about POOGS (phantom out of gas syndrome), which is when your gas cap vent gets plugged up by dirt and it acts like it's running out of gas.

Just some ideas to toss around.

FWIW I failed to mention that my mechanic marbled the bike.

I have purchased the block-off plate kit to officially coaster it.

yes.. pull the hose. cut the end at 45 degree angle and put it back in the ear... this keeps it from bottoming out in the ear.

Just call me Slim or SVR, just don't call me late for dinner. any ways,, yes just pull that hose and cut at a 45 degree angle. and as Ceal suggested search POOGS, and clean out the fuel tank vents.

Your mechanic need to install #40 pilot jets @ 2.50 turns out. :smiley_th
