It looks like its made of aluminum casting...or maybe a Magnesium alloy...anyone know the composition of the stock backrest? You know, the funny U-shaped bit of shiny metal? My reason for asking is that I want to know if its possible to cut it down several inches and weld it back together.
I see from your sigline that your Vucan is an `86.
According to the history, the sissybar and grabrails on the 85 and 86 models are aluminum. No telling what specific alloy it might be.
87 and later are chrome.
Grab rails, Sissy bar, Passenger footpeg mounts
- '85-'86 = aluminum
- '87- up = chrome
Magnesium? That be odd on a 6 grand bike ... if it was ..it sure be neat to be there when you tried welding it.:smiley_th
