Over the past few weeks, my clutch has been i guess, slipping a bit, shifting from like 2nd into 3rd, the rps would go up then down, kinda hard to explain. A let a buddy of mine ride it, and he said right of the bat i have clutch issues, so we tightened the cable up at the lever to its max, and then down where the cable runs along the frame theres another spot to tighten it, I just about maxed it out there. That made alot of difference.

Before it seemed like you had to almost completely release the clutch lever before the bike would start to roll in first gear, now with the adjustment, it starts to move almost as soon as you barely release the clutch.

Now it seems that the bike/clutch seem fine, but my cable is at its max, so i am guessing the cable is stretched and due to be replace soon.

Is there any reason to think it might actually be more problems with the internal clutch? I'm not that familiar with clutches, my bud said it may be the clutch plates slipping?? or worn springs???

Any ideas, comments, suggestions???

I don't mind replacing the cable, but I am not looking forward to have to replace the clutch.

The bike is a 2001 with just over 19K miles on it, how many miles can one get out of a clutch? lol

Also, on another note, I had to adjust my rear brake, you know the nut on the back of the rod and spring?? That is almost maxed out, so what does one do when its time to replace the REAR brake, its a drum, so it's gotta be difficult and spendy right??

Clutch disc 's are easy to change! The rear drum.is also not that bad .while changing the shoe out lube the splines.on the final drive! You can pull the cover and check the frictions in the clutch basket in a few mins

I was cleaning my garage and found a set of upgrade springs for the clutch I never installed. Still in the package, PM if needed.

Do you know if the clutch lever is aligned properly? If you look where the cable hooks to the clutch lever (on the engine). You will see that there is a spilt in the clutch lever, so you can tightend the bolt that holds it on. So there is a gap there. That split should be lined up with whats called the rib. Its right will above the clutch lever and its just a raised line that was molded into the housing.
When everything is properly set that gap and rib should line up. as far as the handle bar lever goes the gap(play) for that should be 2mm-3mm.

If you decide to replace the clutch plates, then you might want to consider drilling the clutch hub, per Kawasaki, to fix the 'coffee grinder'. See below.
