What should I use to clean off the accumulated brake dust on the front brake housing? And, while I'm at at, what is safe to use on the wheels?

I use the spray brake cleaner on a lot of grimey parts of the bike.
For general cleaning 409 or Simple Green work well. Regular wash up I use the car wash solutions and warm water, rinse with hose (no nozzle to avoid the filters etc.) and chamois dry

Cleaning brake dust

I use spray on mag wheel cleaner and citris cleaner with pressure washer on wide fan spray. If more cleaning is needed, I use a brush. I buy the cleaners at the dollar store or dollar tree stores. Bon Ami cleanser (doesn't scratch and no chemicals) is great on bare metal too.

I know others here don't agree with pressure washers, but that's OK. Tire bleach with pressure washing brings back the black w/o using chemicals that make the tread slippery.
