Hello,

We are in the process of changing out the balance shaft. The left end is all boogered up. The attempt is without splitting the engine. Has this ever been done. Any advice appreciated. We will take pics. Shaft is out waiting for new shaft.

I'm a little confused. In your third sentence you asked if the shaft can be taken out without splitting the case. In the seventh you say you have the shaft out. Am I missing something?

I would assume it to be very difficult as the oil pump chain sprocket is in-between the two case haves. But if you managed to remove the left side bearing with the shaft in place, I suppose it would be feasible.

I just don't know if you'd have enough wiggle room to get the oil pump chain on the sprocket once the shaft was seated in the right side bearing. I suppose both bearings could come out...

Hi Roach,

I watched some of your rebuild videos. They are very infomative.

Yes the shaft is out, both bearings were off the shaft and out of engine cases. That gave the oil chain slack enough too be worked over the sprocket and the shaft slid out. I just want to know if anyone had any experience with putting the oil chain back on the sprocket. We haven't tried yet. So no one has done this before?

I can't imagine this to be very common. But if it came out it should go back in.

Make sure to document the procedure with pictures for for future reference.
