So i went for my second ride after changing the stator out and when I went to shift into first it shifted, made a clunk sound, then the shift lever stayed down. The shift lever moves freely with no resistance. It doesnt fall lower than normal or go any higher, it just moves freely aznd wont shift. I think I rememeber a post about a bad weld on the early models shift shaft but im not sure. Im just wondering what I might check first and how extensive this process is going to be. Will the engine have to come out or can I just take the right cover off and possibly fix this? Im just really tired of constantly working on this bike. Thanks for all the help guys. Its a 1991 750 by the way.

Lance and his batphone fixed the problem... shoot lance a pm, and he too will contact you via the batphone... give him your number casue the bat phone doesn't have a global phone list.
