So ive almost gotten my vulcan road ready.Only thing is , the bike seems like it isnt running on the left cylinder 100%.Or as a matter of fact i know it isnt.The engine will start easy , and idle pretty good.Right cylinder (front) hits great while the left (back) sounds weak and will NOT take throttle at all hardly..if you twist the throttle just a little bit its like it just shuts that cylinder off.Im guessing its a carb problem? I tested compression in both cylinders and it held 91 lbs in both , identical. it is firing , tested coils..so it would have to be the carb(s) right? Thing is they were taken apart and cleaned right after i bought the bike.The gas tank was rusty but i cleaned it and put red-kote in it and cleaned the petcock..is their any kind of adjustments or anything i should know about? It is driving me crazy as this is the only thing keeping me from hitting the road. please help guys. thanks:carryflag

Something to try, before removing the carbs, is Seafoam. A great product that works wonders on fuel related problems.

Your compression readings are low.
Did you hold the throttle wide open while doing the test?

Might want to confirm with second gauge.
Clymers manual specifies 129-199 psi, with a difference between cylinders within 10 psi.

No i did not hold throttle wide open , could be the problem? I was using a high quality MAC tools compression guage my uncle borrowed from a local shop...ill check again.

Yes , my uncle reccomended i use 4-power , im guessing its kind of the same thing..It will be on my list either way.Ive been reading on here about venting related issues and similar problems to mine so i need to check out my vent system.

LOL...so i noticed today..that my carbs were installed BACKWARDS..thats why i couldnt get the choke cable to route correctly...you guys think this is why my bike was running like it was? im going to try to switch them aorund and get it all togethe rthis weekend if im nto to busy.

Backwards you say? I didn`t even know that was possible!

Better check everything else on the bike pretty closely.:BLAM:

Yes i am 98% sure according to the pics ive found on this forum.

choke cable bracket thing is on the left (front) carb right? And the cable itself hooks up to the other carb where the choke mechanism is correct?If so i had it backwards.ha only me...
