Ok, so I've done some searching and some listening but I haven't seen any pics of an auxiliary fuel tank on a VN750.

I'll post pics and a parts list if/ when I end up adding an aux tank (I'm getting sick of stopping for gas every 80-110 miles) but I figured I'd ask if someone had actually done it yet.

I'm thinking somewhere in the range of 2-4 gallons (if I can make 4 gallons fit, but I'll probably end up at 3). I'd prefer not to have to add a fuel pump, and I'd prefer to mount the tank to the rear rack (before I order a tank I'll put the appropriate amount of weight on the rear rack to make sure it doesn't throw the COG off too bad).

I'm more concerned with functionality and safety than looks (look at my bike and you'll see that). I'm open to any suggestions on plumbing, mounting, and tanks to consider.

Most of the tanks I'm finding are in the range of 8-10*8-10*10-14high. I'd prefer for the plumbing to be reversable.

Links? Ideas? Comments? Suggestions I'll ignore:doh:?

Have you looked at these guys? http://www.tourtank.com/ Their product looks pretty sharp and if you put the extra nylon cover over the auxiliary tank it will look a lot less like you're carrying a beer keg.

Yup! Seen the tourtank, but I THINK that the tt will be a bit too wide for my application because of my ammo can saddlebags. The tour tank, however, is on the short list of things to consider.

Hey, Curtis;

A guy in CA put one on his 750, way back when. Do a search on the main VROC website for Auxiliary fuel tank, and click on the first post that shows up. It was a 3 gallon fuel cell made by JAZ, IIRC.

And, there's a guy--a VROCer--who's making them for 1500 or 1600 Classics, and some other bikes, somewhere up there in the PacNorWet. They fit where the goat's belly used to be. Enuff interest, and a bike to work with, and he might be talked into designing and building one for the 750. Post a question to the PNWVROC webforum; someone'll know how to get ahold of him.

I've got a stock tank marked for cutting, to enlarge, but haven't had time to proceed further than that, lately. Too much going on that needs doing now. ;D

Thanks for the tip!

%&&# yahoo!!!! The pics are in a yahoo album... which means Unless I can get ahold of douglas. He acutally used one of the tanks that's on my short list, and it's good to hear that at least then (7 years ago) Jaz was willing to customize a tank for $25 (I didn't like where some of the fittings were... doug had the same issues).

So now I've found 3 people who've done an aux tank. Make that 4. Dianna in her sidecar, Jill did a tour tank and graciously sent me pics. Billy greer aparently did an aux tank, but his e-mail is now bouncing.

My next door neighbor builds boat tops, so having a cover made for my tank should be no issue ;-) When I do my aux tank (I hate stopping for gas every 80-100 miles - whether that be because of a long trip or my daily commute). I'll post a bunch of pics and as long as I get permission I'll post any pics I get from others.

Yeah I've looked at those tanks but they're a bit expensive (around $500). I can pick up a tourtank for around $150 or a tank from jegs for right around a C note.

I've got a student's budget and already have more than half the $ I spent on the bike in accessories on the bike ;-).

I kinda prefer the look of the tour tank to the dragster tanks, but dimensions are definitely an issue.

I'd seen the GB replacement gas tanks, but 3 issues - cost, I want a gravity fed system (one less thing to go wrong), and I'm not sure I like the idea of a gas tank right next to super hot pipes. Definitely would be better as far as COG goes... maybe on my next bike ;-)

Thanks for all the links and tips ya'll.
