i found this fork conversion chart while lurking on streetfighter.com(yeah i know, but i am also playing with a 600 katana).andWolfie, the vn 800,900,and 1500 share common bearing sizes with the 750.i know you are looking for a wider front end;).the chart does not show stem length, only bearing sizes. All Balls Racing is a company that sells ball bearings.

Pardon my ignorance. I'm still learning alot of things. Does that mean that a vn1500a front end should bolt up to a vn750 without alot of bs?

the chart shows the bearing sizes only.there may be a difference in stem height, but it should be close.i think someone on here did that conversoin, but am not sure.do you already have the vn1500 front end?if so,just try it.the worst that can happen is that you have to put the old front end back on

But thats the whole issue....to be able to use a wider tree in the same stem/neck...lol
I could get a new tree made, to fit my tubes, et al, but if I had the money for that, Id just get a different bike. Cutting/swapping a neck is an option, but again, not worth the cost. Mebbe I'll just get a custom stemmed springer made up....its what I want anyway.
We're talking direct or near direct fork and tree swaps....usually to accomodate a wider rim and tire.

We're not looking bigger, we're looking wider, i.e. different tree with same stem.
Because..........you cant put say a 17" wheel with a wide tire onto a VN. There's no room. Therefore the search for a wider front to accomodate. VN1500 seems to be the closest.

And if it is able to be a bolt on then it is even better.:smiley_th

I bought some 1500 classic forks, and looking at them they're shorter than my stock vn 750 forks. In consideration of the fact that I have a larger front wheel, diameter wise, than the classic. I can only think the frame and or trees are considerably different on the classic, Rake wise or head hieght.

the classic forks wont work as a direct bolt on, you needed to get a set of 1987-97 vn1500a forks. the stem is roughly 3/4" of an inch longer than ours, so you have to cut it down slightly and machine a spacer.. other than that its a a direct bolt on.
yes this changes the rake to almost 40 degrees if memory serves me right...

That is pretty much what i want too... but i got an idea to build my own, using the vn1500 triple tree as my base.

Talk to me brother.....we're lookin the same thing pretty much methinks....tubes and lowers is nuthin....the tree is where it all starts....
....and not fer nuthin....but if you have a tree for say 39mm uppers (Honda I think), you can go one up to 40 real easy.....thats only 1/2mm all the way around....you can go up, but not so good to go down, then ya need shims, and thats halfazz....
Get a close enough Jap tree, and you can put StreetGlide uppers and lowers in....or whatever....but yeah, the tree is the main thing to get....after that, its easy.....toughest part really, is to find a "bolt on" neck....once thats done, rest can be fixed....I wouldnt think twice about millin out a 1/2 mm out of a tree....hell, all ya need is a round bastard if the trees aluminum...
