Some of you have seen some of my posts; since I bought the bike in April, every repair I tackle, holds some unexpected surprise from my PO, which I wasn't ready for, and ends up leaving me bike-less for a few days to a couple weeks while I track more parts, and info.

Changing my rear tire today was no different. I've had a leak in the rear for about two weeks, tried some different liquid tire sealers to buy some time, but still had to air it everyday to ride it.

Went thru fits trying to buy the tire first from one place, then another, and finally another, and then got my hands on it. Came up with some nifty stick on weights for balancing, and was ready to go.

Go thru all kinds of trouble today to peel the old tire off, figure it's just several years old and really stuck on the rim, and when I finally break the bead, what do I find?

An inner tube. Tubeless wheel, tubeless tire, but mine has a tube in it. I didn't know there was a tube in there, didn't plan for it, so I didn't buy a new valve stem. The chrome ones I had on it looked good, didn't leak when squirted with soapy water, so I thought I was safe.

Drove around to 4 different local places trying to find a valve, came up empty, so gotta order it online, and the bike stays down, for a few more days. Again.

Every single time I repair something it turns into this. The good news though, is every repair is done right, and the bike gets a little more enjoyable to ride each time as well.

That's what i get for not buying new valves, to go with the new tires. Lesson learned. :drool:

Oh, my splines get lubed for the second time in two months, and my recent brakes got a good inspection as well.

Wow, man that's just piling on!! ;)

All kidding aside, Doug, each repair brings you one, maybe two steps closer to a completely sorted out bike!

Yeah, the tank has been off, and those surprises cleaned up as well. LOL

I'm hangin Frank, I've come too far with it to get out now. ;)

Wow, I don't know why anyone would put a tube in a tubeless tire. People do stupid things.

Well, there can be a few reasons to put a tube in a tubeless tire..so may not be a "stupid" thing...(no patch kit while on the road , leaking rim, hole in sidewall and can not afford a new tire...)

Your problems remind me of my first house. Lets just say the previous owner had an intresting slant on home repair...from 4 inch screws in the wall for a 1/4 lb picture to 2X4 repairs to the roof..feel for you man.

I think we bought our houses from the same guy.

Fortunately, the PO on my bike did take pretty good care of it. All the things I've done have been minor adjustments, tweaked to my likings. (clutch and rear brakes) Only thing I can see that was questionable was their idea of cleaning the bike and mine.

Actually, I WOULD wonder why the PO put in a tube. Either they were too cheap to replace the tire - maybe had a big bolt in it or something - or there's something wrong with the rim that it won't seal properly. I guess you'll find out when you put the new one on.

No more surprises, the rest of the tire install went fine after my new valve stems arrived. Gotta love Dennis Kirk, I ordered the stems Tues evening, got 'em this am (Thurs) with just regular UPS shipping.

Anyway, got some new rubber on it, and need to hit the road and put some test miles in it. ;)

i used to put tubes in my quad tires when the tire was not fixable and/or the rims got a little beat up resulting in a slow leak.

I looked my old tire over, and the rim, and I sure couldn't see anything to suggest there was a problem, or any good reason to explain a tube in it. But my whole bike has been like this. LOL

The only problems I've run across from my PO were the bent handlebars, dents in the tank, and cracked speedo housing because they knocked it into something else in their barn; the screen was missing in the oil drain hole (ordered a new one from Ron Ayers), and they didn't do anything to take care of the chrome or paint. It looks good, but just some small rust forming. I gotta get out some elbow grease.

Speaking of Ron Ayers (to get totally off topic), I found in ordering my parts that there were several parts houses that had prices near or below Ron Ayers, but when it came to figuring out the shipping rates, they were charging nearly twice as much! You can't overlook what people are charging for shipping these days.

Hmmmm, I've been running tubes in my tubeless mower tires for over 20 years, but it only runs 6# in the rear & 12# in the front...lol... I just check the tires in the spring, don't have to check them every time I go to mow, like I had to before...lol...
Like KM said, could be lots of reasons...
