Hey all,

I'm getting ready to remove the stock exhaust on my 1985 VN700 and put on my new V&H Cruizers.

Now mind you, these pipes have been on the bike for over 20 years! So to aviod any "problems" like breaking a stud, etc...I want to make sure (being the anal person I am) that I am prepared as possible.

My brother said to squirt it with a good rust penetrant the night before and then run the engine for 15 minutes prior to loosening the bolts (to expand the metal).

Any other tips, tricks or advice to make removing the exhaust as painless as possible?

Your brother is a smart man. :)

Be patient after spraying the penetrant and allow it time to work. Go have some coffee or a snack while it does it's work.

Not sure if you already have the lubricant but SeaFoam makes a good product for that purpose. It's called Deep Creep. You can buy it at Napa Auto Parts Stores.
