Bitwell Hard Tail Struts
 
Anyone ever use these or find something similar to them for vn750's? I think 10" might be a little too low and I don't think vn750's have a 1/2" eye bore..

Don't know any vendor that lists the Vulcan 750 per say, but yes, 10" is likely too short. The stock eyes are around 1/2" though. They be metric of course, but I bet 1/2" would fit.

I just don't get the appeal of a hardtail, especially if it is done with struts. I admit I like the looks of a real hardtail frame, and am a big fan of the Captain America chopper from Easy Rider. But that is hardly a practical motorcycle. More something to cruise around town on and get looks. I actually prefer the hardtail LOOK of a bike like the Vulcan 800, Honda VLX, or Yamaha V-Star.

Well, as you all may have guessed, I flip a coin to decide if I give a smart asss answer or a helpful one. Both are ready to go in my head.... But I let fate pick which I post. In this case, the "helpful post" won. ;)


And I'm with Jerry on this, the "look" of a hardtail is cool, but my spine and kidneys want a suspension.

maybe not the alignment of the stars....we can chalk it up to Solar flares :beerchug:

I have to say that I don't see the point in making the frame rigid. but then again...it's the owners choice to do as he sees fit. All anyone can do is try to give sound advice and keep them safe as well as anyone else sharing the road with them...right??

I for one am curious to see the finished mods and what the theme will be in the end.:rockon:

The Vulcan 750 has a fairly beefy swing arm, and the bottom shock mount is right at the end, so it should be structurally sound. Not all bikes are with struts. The Honda Rebel is one of them. It has a very weak swingarm, and the lower shock mounts are several inches ahead of the rear axle. This creates a weak point at the lower shock mount, and most of the forces encountered by the rear tire are fed into that location. The swingarm will eventually crack and break there. Sportsters, like the Vulcan, have the bottom of their shocks mounted at the very end of the swingarm, creating a triangulated structure.
