Thanks Dianna! That's what I was thinking was gonna have to happen. I went home on my lunch break and took some photos of it, but can't seem to get them to embed in my response. Either way I'm gonna have my engineer (Dad) take a look at it here in a bit. I'm guessing that I can cut off the threaded portion, drill, and tap it so that an automotive stud can be threaded in and welded. The actual load bearing portion where the shock eye goes is completely undamaged. All the threaded portion does (from what I can tell so far) is keep the shock from popping off of the load bearing portion.
I guess I'll see what my Dad has to say when he can examine it.
Thanks again Dianna

Hello All. I've run into a bit of a problem.
I just replaced my tires on my '03 750 and after putting on the rear tire I went to tighten up the left shock and the bolt snapped off. There is a little thread left on it and I was able to get the lock washer and nut back on. It is reasonably tight, but I'm taking a long trip next month and I don't want any trouble from the shock while I'm out in the middle of nowhere. I was wondering if there is any way to replace the bolt. It is hard to tell from a glance if the bolt is part of the frame or if I can slide a new one in there.

The bolt is part of the fraim, you will have to cut it and reweld on a new bolt.
Rember the shock has all of its stress on the vertical not horisontal.
You can try to drill and retap the center and use a bolt not a nut.
Hope this helps

Seems like a few have and the problem is, it's not a bolt, it is a stud that is welded to the frame.
If I remember correctly replacement was a bolt through that part of the frame and then either re-enforced or re-welded to strengthen it.

Anyone ever have the top shock stud break?
Last night I was putting on the replacement rear shocks and had the right side top stud pop in the middle of the threads. There was little or no pressure being put on the nut. I was just beginning to put pressure on the lock washer when the ratchet dropped on to my foot.
Has anyone here ever replaced this part or know how? I find it hard to believe that I would be the first one to have this kind of problem. Any suggestions or help? Please?
I'm at the point with this bike that I'm seriously considering just parting this sucker out or selling it off. Everything on this bike (except the engine *fingers crossed*) seems to have problems. I don't know whether to laugh or cry at this last (and possibly final) problem.
P.S. I'm trying to get some pictures uploaded now
