|Crobins365||Anybody who's done the mods (silicone, duct tape) ever have any trouble? Mine has been fine --the lock used to always loosen up, but it's solid since the silicone sploot -- but just wondering if the suggestions for keeping one's lock and toolbox door are largely successful.|

I got rid of mine as well.
My door fell of the second day I had the bike.
I cut a small piece of stainless steel and popped it into the back of the seat using the original bolt for the box to secure it and I bought a fork bag and popped my registration and insurance in it and forgot about it.
I think it looks much better that way, the lock box always looked cheap.

There were only two things the mechanic told me when I picked up mine.
1. Fill the tank only to the bottom of the filler tube.
2. Tighten the lock nut in the tool box every time you open it.
I asked hime about break-in and he smiled and said,
'Hey, it's a Kawasaki'.

Put some type of heavy tape on the inside to reinforce the hinge, if it is broken or not. I store my documents in mine, and have a sissybar bag for commonly used items.

I used a small backpack. Almost more like a backpack styled camera bag.
It doesn't take up much more room than the toolbox did. The rear rack is kinda needed to keep it in place, but it'd probably be fine without one.

|james brill||foxhound is right,the best solution is to lose the box and find a good replacement. maybe you can do a little leather work or find an old purse that latches.|

|Foxhound||I did away with the toolbox all together on Angel. Put a willie and max sissy bar bag in its place. On Pris, thanks to DMAG I still have the origional toolbox. I've reinforced the hinge with good electrical tape. I'll locktite the lock when I put it back on. If I don't do a solo saddle mod.|

Tool box issues
In reading current and past posts (as well as information from other Web sites), it looks like the issue of the tool box lock falling off (and, in some cases, the door following suit) is a real problem with the Vulcan 750. I've read the number of proposed fixes and safeguards, but my question is whether or not to trust the tool box at all? Does swapping out the lock for a new one from Home Depot/Lowe’s really do the trick? Or is using sealant on the existing lock good enough? I'd like a place to keep my registration and wallet, but I don't want to be paranoid and have to check that the door's still there every few miles, either!
Why, in 20 years of manufacturing this motorcycle, wasn't Kawasaki able to fix this problem?
