I've never used them, but the main drawback to the Shinkos seems to be that they wear out faster. I replace (and balance) my own tires, and would rather have a tire that lasts as long as possible, to avoid having to go through the hassle of mounting and balancing another set after a short time. Considering the lower mileage, I doubt the Shinkos are really THAT much cheaper, especially if tou pay for mounting and balancing. On the other hand, I have a set of cheap Cheng Shins on my dual sport bike, with over 10,000 miles on them, and most of that is DIRT miles. They are maybe 2/3 worn out. And these were super cheap, like $22 for the front, $30 for the rear. But they are much easier to change, and I don't balance them. And while they have proven to hold up well, I would be hesitant to use any Chinese tire on a street bike at high speeds. If they are inflated to the so called "max" pressure, and used strictly on the street, you can get 20,000 miles or very close out of a rear ME880. You can get 20,000 or more out of the front. |

I went to my shop to order another set of Metzlers and he talked me into the Shinkos instead. The price is nice in comparison. They are still pretty new since this was late last Fall, but so far I have no complaints. And yes, new tires are really round and feel alot different from the old worn out ones. |

| Kelly2001 | I've got Shinko's, but have only ran the rear for about 1500 miles. I like it better than the ME-880 it replaced, definitely has more traction. At 1/3 the price of the Metz, with which I got 20K, I would be very pleased to get 10,000 miles out of the Shinko-- in my mind, the cost would be equivalent, considering the time it takes me to mount and balance myself. I haven't measured the tread depth, but it does not appear that the rear is wearing "fast," and am optimistic abot being ableto get 10K. |

Youtube video There are some youtube vids of the shinko tire. I know the one video the guy measures the wear at like 1500 miles. Then he compared the per mile cost to another tire brand. The shinko was less money per mile. |

Shinko 230 Tour Master Tires Just got my pair of Shinko 230 Tour Master Tires, and the tires are awesome for the price. I paid for the front and rear only $132. Just put them on over the weekend. The grip on them is great. Bike had a pair of Bridgestone tires that were dry rotted bad. There were cracks in the tires everywhere. I went to a local bike shop,and they gave me a quote of around $400 for a pair of Pirelli tires. I know they are a good tires,but the price was too high. Went online and found the Shinko's and they had good reviews and the price was right. These are also V rated instead of H. Don't know yet how long the tread life is,but the dry wet grip is great. |
