L2fish I used to ride dirt bikes. Sitting forward and hugging the tank helps in sharp cornering. I cant see it applicable to riding a street bike though. Maybe helps to swerve in an emergency.

Yep, reminds me of a few years ago when my sister ask about how I liked my Wheel Horse riding mower, and I told her I really liked it...
They bought one just like it (they live in another town +/- 200 mi.) and she hated it, said she could hardly mow her place without breaking her back (she must have 5+ acres she mows)...
I later on a visit mowed some for her and could easily see what she ment, the dealer had put 35 psi in both front and back tires and told her that was what she needed to run in them... This was a 24 hp 60" mower with those large turf tires on the rear and the smaller ones on the front, (can't remember the exact sizes) but it was just like mine and I run 6 psi in the rear and 12 psi in front...lol...
Them darn things don't have springs or shocks, can you imagine how hard that thing bounced with 35 psi in those big rear tires...lol...
She had mowed with it about a year before I found her problem, but she was very happy with the mower after the adjustments....
BTW-That was not the only problem, I have never seen such a screwed up set up on a mower in my life, any 10 yr old should have done better...

Not at all. At 70mph the air going up my pants legs relatively comfortable. Even a 100+ degrees. It also helps to make the left exhaust a little more bearable on your @$$, especially on those long rides.

techdif I don't remember my shock pump being all that expensive. I am wanting to think somewhere around $50. I'm a little heavy in the saddle too. What amazed me was the simple fact that my shocks had 0 psi!!!!! The dealership told me that under no circumstances should I mess with it they where set from the factor. Of course that didn't suit me lol so I had to some diggin. My owners manual said they were set for a 180lb rider and I'm considerably over that. Done a little math an adjusted air for my weight and OMG the bike day/night different. Much much much better.

When i am engaging in technical moves etc..i bring my knees to the tank. then going straight i let them flap. Plus its stretching and improving circulation.
I basically do the same, legs out when in the streights and tank squeeze when in the twists...

For some reason, sometimes when I am riding, usually all sprawled out on the bike it feels like it wants to lean to the right and flop over no matter how fast I am going. I think I just need to modify my position on the bike and not try to wiggle around when I am riding. If I move around the least little bit, the bike will try to turn sideways, but I think that's just because I am so big and its not the bikes fault.

Like denny, I`m heavy duty too. When just starting to ride, I was surprised how much the bike moved around when squirming around to find a comfortable position for my backside.

When I let my knees flop around, the bike tends to move around too. When I remember to squeeze the tank with my knees the bike is more stable, but I`m not as comfortable.

Only the earliest models have an air valve in the fork tubes, maybe `85 to `87 model years. Usable pressure range is from 0- 7.1 psi when cold.

Rear shocks for a rider weighing 150 lbs, with no other luggage, set dampers at #2 setting and atmospheric pressure. For heavier rider or loads, increase damper setting, usable pressure is from 0-43 psi when cold. Maximum pressure is 71 psi.
