Sounds like you turned the key too far, as there's a "park" position on the key switch that leaves the tail light on...
If you're sure you didn't do this, it's possible your switch is bad.

brake light on when steering column locked?
The other day I went to work, locked the steering column by turning the key all the way right, came back after work and my battery was run dead.
Checked, and when I lock it up like that, my brake light lights up and remains alit. Is this a problem that I (with little-to-no knowledge of this bikes electrical system setup) would be able to fix? Or is it some crazy problem that Ill need some electrical dude to help me out on?
