|mnmkiller||What pisses me off is the loud piped bike rider who intentually revs his engine runs in a lower gear than necessary just to rev the engine in residential areas just to hear the noise. This is different than going down the highway where a louder m/c just might alert a deer or an inattentive driver. I wish I could get those guys for an assault on my hearing. It is possible to drive very quiet in town even with no mufflers just be a little light on the throttle. There is one ****head who I am waiting to see parked. I have full intentions to tell him off 'cause he does it all the time. A Harley of course. Of course he'll probably just look at me with bloodshot eyes and a blank expression. Usually that type of person doesn't give a f--- about anyone but himself anyway.|

|Krawdad7||Well this is all well an good.I modified my own exhaust I left all the chrome and removed the goats belly then ran a straight pipe all the way to the end then added two 45 degree turn downs one on each side. Its loud and the only reason that I did it is I like the way it sounds Its great.I did it for my own enjoyment.|

|Seth||I have found that the sound of my stock pipes (2005 with 8700mi) has improved with time. They are just a little louder and the tone seams richer to my ear.|

I am on both sides of this one.
Admittedly, when cruising on the interstate on my 1500, if I am riding in a blind spot which I try very hard not to do, I will roll the throttle a little so that the vehichle will know I am there. Purley a defensive act. The Hard-Krome pipes really bark at a certain throttle position and up.

I guarantee you can't hear as much with loud pipes as you can with quiet stock ones. As for those that think they drive in bad traffic, I ride in DC it's in the top 10 of bad traffic cities in the US. Me I don't find loud pipes on any vehicle music. It's just as annoying to hear a bike roaring down the road at 6 am on a sunday as it is a pickup truck. Reasonable speed, defensive driving, awareness, bright colors, a good loud horn, these are your best defenses. I ride with a great group of folks in the SCRC, some of them have louder pipes, it makes it difficult to hear my own engine when I am behind one.
Me I'll stand by my opinion, quiet pipes give me one more sense to use. You may be able to hear over your loud pipes but not as well as someone with quiet ones. And as stated it is less annoying to the rest of the world.
We are getting a bad rap as riders from all angles. Irresponsible sport bike riders, remnants of the biker gangs of a bygone era, even your drunk weekend warriors. I'll d what I can to show the world not all riders are like this. I'll put my riding skills up against using loud pipes for safety. My neighbors may never know the difference, but I will.

My neighbor has a Shadow with really loud pipes (makes my VN700 sound quiet, and I have Screamin Eagles on it) I never hear him until he is downshiftng coming up the stop sign in front of my place.

Loud pipes don't bother me. (although some are REALLY loud)
It's those BOOM BOOM cars that I can't stand !!
