|primerib||WilliamTech, thanks for the tip. That worked for me too. Just cleaned up and poured some brake fluid on the outside of the master cylinder at the piston and worked it free. works great now. thanks again|

master cylinder disassembly problem
I'm new here being I recently acquired a '85 Vulcan 700. The hand brake wasn't returning all the way (so the brake light stayed on). Web search shows the piston is stuck. So I'm trying to break it down to clean it up and rebuild if necessary.
So I pull the master cylinder off my bike. I remove the white plastic retainer. Get the dust boot off and I see this (see pics). I was expecting a snap ring clip but is this part of the master cylinder housing? is there anything to remove here or now I just pull the piston out now?
I have a Clymers manual on the in the mail but I'd appreciate any and all advice.
