Yeah, I'd up the idle a bit. As mentioned 1100 rpms is the factory setting, manual says 1100-1150 (not sure how to measure that extra 50 )
With my (stock) bike I had to switch off my running lights if I was stuck in traffic or at a long light with the bike idling as it would go below 12.9.
A good reason not to let your bike idle for too long. These Vulcans like to rev, so wouldn't hurt to get a voltmeter for your bike so you can monitor what's happening...

|thtanner||I've seen 12.9 at idle with a stock style regulator, and stock wiring setup. If you did the two-wire mod that'd probably kick up idle voltage. MOSFET would do wonders as we all know.|

idle at 1000 is pretty good, could be a touch higher (1100 is the factory spec) but most of us get little to no charging at idle. 12.5+ means you're at least not discharging, and 14-15 is optimal charging.
I have the factory stator and get 13.7-14.0 most of the time until the bike warms up, then I get like 12.6 at idle with up to 14.2 at highway speeds (with some fluctuation)
Generally, though, 13+ volts is good charging, anything over 15 is interesting but not a bad thing unless it persists. I used to max at 14.5 with the factory R/R, but now get a max of about 14 most of the time with a mosfet R/R installed

12.9 at idle sounds low..what's your idle set at?
And you're not overcharging even if the volts swing past 15 volts...as long as they don't stay there. Even 16 volts for 16 seconds isn't going to cause a problem. The stator output tends to fluctuate, even at a given engine speed.

how much is to much?
I just replaced the stator with one from elcto sport . the bike now idles at 12.9 . at 1500 rpm it at 13.6 . at over 2500 its charging at 14.6 . at what point is it charging to much ? thanks krew
