ubertalldude Definitely check out what majdsaster posted. If your stator tests well then you may just need a new battery and/or R/R; and even without issues it's better to upgrade to a MosFet/Series style R/R, but that's AFTER you get it running right

Background on the issue: for years his bike always seemed to have trouble holding a charge and would have trouble starting, a few times I've even wound up stranded and needed a jump to get home.

So it has sat for a good while but was still turning over so I tried hooking the charger up and leaving it for a while, eventually cranked the charger up to "start engine" to see if I could start it... Seemed to be getting closer but then it lost all power completely and has been that way since. Checked the main fuse and it's fine, I really don't know too much else besides seeing others here replace the junction box, and people telling me it could be the stator... Thinking at this point it could be the old issue paired with the new one I caused and needs both...

I have a pretty good knowledge on automotive parts, particularly the body panels and structural parts but not as good with mechanical. I'm hoping to nail down a diagnosis and which parts need to be replaced, then I guess go from there.

Thanks to anyone that's able to help out!

OhoH, Sounds like my Vulcan. I been going through this for the past month or so and did my testing today. The diagnosis is grim but but I think I can fix it, with help from the folks on these forums.
Get out the Multimeter and make sure it has a fresh battery in it and start testing. Here's a link to the thread you need to read.

ubertalldude Battery may be too dead to recover. Have an auto parts store test it and or replace it if necessary. Then we can help with other electrical issues
