Happy Birthday, a bit early.
The first bike I bought was a Harley in 1973, the 350 Sprint. I started riding in 1968. It's been fun. I currently own the Harley TriGlide. My wife talked me into trading the same bike as a two wheel version for the 3 wheel TriGlide since she had knee replacement, etc, we are aging, and she likes the stability of the trike. I found the Vulcan 750 by reading the local craigslist. I picked this up from a really cool guy up in Azle. I did the ear shave, rebuilt the carbs, rejetted, etc, put the K&N filters on, put the coasters on it, the Emgo breather, the Iridium spark plugs. You did the right thing. The Vulcan is quite impressive, and it does remind me of a Harley. Save the money, keep whatcha got.The Vulcan rocks. The aftermarket goodies are out there. The build is long enough of a run, 20 years, to find plenty of parts, etc. I would be happy to meet you somewhere for a cold drink or coffee. I would love to meet our Vulcan family in my area.
