WOW, if you had pulled out a split second sooner the truck would have hit you instead of the way it turned out.

I am glad no one was hurt and there was no damage to the truck or the scoot.

The only thing left to do now is to analyse why you missed seeing the truck coming, and figure out how to not let it happen again!

I may be deluding myself, but I have always considered myself to be a good driver, maybe even better than most. Being a professional truck driver, I am cautious about speed and watch when approaching other traffic. That said, since I first bought my vn 7 years ago, I came within literally inches of rear ending a dirty black Harley with an equally dirty brake light lens when he was sitting stopped at a red light. I missed him only because I was creeping up to the light very slowly hoping it would change to green before I had to stop.

The fact that I was driving a 30 year old pickup with a sandblasted windshield which glared badly driving into the sunrise probably accounts for 90% of the reason I did not see him sooner.

Statistically those who ride or have a family member or friends who are riders are more likely to see other riders on the road.

2nd incident. Almost pulled out in front of a bike in a residential area at a T intersection I was familiar with. I was coming up the stem of the T and he was approaching from my right, passing two full sized parked cars which screened a good portion of my field of view. I caught a glimpse of some motion and because I was already creeping up to the intersection was able to stop before intruding into his path. He was approaching slowly too. Good driving techniques on both our parts in this case.

Anyway, congrats on coming out of this incident with no damage to anything but your pride.
