Intresting data, a bit old, and kinda lost to the average american

I've read many tests/studies on braking. Many of them comparing ABS to conventional brakes. One such study convinced me that my next bike WOULD have ABS. And it does.

I have not been able to find an online copy of that same study, but the following one seems to be a heavily edited version of it:

The part I remember that stuck with me is they used riders with diffrent skill levels. An expert road racer, a long time touring bike rider, and a brand new rider with less than a month of saddle time.

It showed time after time that the brand new rider could outbrake the "expert rider" when on the ABS equipped bike on a wet road, (the expert rider on the non ABS bike) and by significant distances.

The expert rider, on the non ABS bike, was able on a clean dry road to stop sooner than the others riding the ABS model.... But that was the only time the non ABS bike "won".

Luckily I've not had to test my ABS in a real world situation, but I'm really glad it's there....

I have a question about the ABSs, different systems...??? I know back years ago they were or at least we called them anti-lock brakes, and without a doubt I could out do them, now here at present or really about 10 mos. ago I got into a situation of panic type breaking with my then new 2010 GM Mercury, and without a doubt I could not have handled it as well as the system did, I swear I couldn't... Those on that 2010 GM Merc. were great to say the least, they kept my car out of the driver's seat of a PU that pulled out right smack in front of me, and without a doubt in my mind saved his life...
Have they made some awsome improvements in the systems, in say the last 25 yrs. ...???
I remember older PUs that I couldn't stop in a 10 acre field with their ABSs, especially pulling a bass boat, I remember almost pulling the steering wheel out by the roots trying to stop...lol... I even traded up to a tandem axle boat trailer with brakes...

Yes...ABS , just short for Antilock Braking System, has vastly improved through the years. The evolution of faster and faster processing chips has made current ABS systems much better and smoother.

Ones in cars and bikes today are twice as fast as ones just 8 years ago. My 06 FJR works well, you can feel the "pulses" of the abs kicking in. I took my 07 Miata out on a newly rained on parking lot and tried it's abs out...the car just stopped, no skids, no slide, and no pulsing felt.

The systems are still improving too. If i remember right..BMWs new system can interpet 10000 bits of information on wheel speed a second and "pump" the brake over 100 times a second.

Im still from the days of drum, non power brakes...worked for me...also, there were times I'd WANNA lock...intentionally skid the rear...siiiiiigh.....progress...

Oh I can tell ya ABS saved my life once. I was on my R1100RS in downtown San Francisco and came upon a lot of gravel where they tore up the road. As soon as I get into no man's land the light turns yellow, which means I gun it through the intersection or slam on the brakes - on gravel. I would not have made it through the intersection (cars there instantly get into it as soon as they get green) and just as I realized that I also realized I had ABS - so I slammed on both front and back and hard as I could and I came to a niiiiiice eeeeeasy stop ..... on GRAVEL!
