1985 VN750 in Quebec

Hey! I'm from Montreal, Quebec.
I just found out about this site.

I had my VN750 for about 10 years now and it runs great
(besides knocking a bit and yes I will try the grambo trick )

Be safe!

Hello Mastema in Montreal from western Canada

Welcome to the Vulcan Forum from sunny southern Alberta. I know this is a stale thread, almost 15 months old, but I hope you drop in from time to time. We need more voices from North of the 49th here on the forum. Come on in, look around and join in the conversation about the VN750. Keep the shiny side up.

Newby saying Hello

im in Blenheim just below Chatham Ontario.Im 70 ,rode bikes for years, and always learning lol .Managed to get 2 recent basket cases one a suzuki GS550 (1983) barn stored for years, now running fine but showing its age and neglect .Second bike which is a keeper is a 88 VN750with a stator problem that i will tackle this winter.A 350 dollar special, saddle bags and side covers stripped and sold before i got my foot in the door and was about to be broken up for parts.. .Already relocated the RR behind the left passenger foot peg.one interesting problem i have is that lots of times the headlight will not come on except when i hit the start button again while the bike is running ,Any ideas.PS terrific site ,wonderful learning opportunities and the biggest reason im keeping the Kawa ....

Welcome to the Vulcan madness Dustyboots.
Here`s a link to a downloadable service manual in Kanuck69`s first post:

I have heard of that headlight problem before, but I don`t recall the cause right now. One of our electrical gurus will know the answer.

Tuxedo Seven has a $20 engine mod that does not require pulling the engine to change the stator.

With the age of your scoot, the balancer dampers may be deteriorating and need replacement which will require an engine pull anyway. Watch for rubber chunks in the filter screen behind the side drain plug when you drop the crankcase oil. If there are no chunks and no untoward vibrations from the engine, the dampers are probably still OK.

Into the TS Mod now Good instructions and much appreciated pics >Thank You Tuxedo Seven .The headlight problem is largely resolved by taking the starter button housing off removing one dead spider and a suprising amount of cobwebs and spraying the ****ens out of it with WD40 and working it like mad a few doz times. .I have used the starter button when driving at night to blink at oncoming vehicles on other bikes i've owned ...,works great ! While i was trying this out on the VN750 that i noticed it also turned the headlight on or off. That was and is a suprise to me and im not convinced was planned to operate that way ...Any Opinions/sugestions from the members ? would be appreciated
