With BEVA '08 coming up President's Day weekend in New Orleans, the next event following will be the Texas Hill Country Ride, April 17th-20th:
Rooms have been blocked at the headquarters hotel, the Sunday House, and I believe also across the street at the Super 8. Be sure to mention you're with the VROC group if you make reservations there. Piper is supposed to be there again this year, I believe, with his trailer of patches, caps, t-shirts, seats, etc.
Another option for those that would rather be closer to the riding, is to stay at a motel in Kerrville; there's plenty to choose from. There's another option for that, too:
It's a nice little resort with camping, cabins, on-site store and restaurant, etc. Matter of fact, next year I'm planning to do the VN750 Hill Country Ride as a totally seperate event from DFW's event, prolly the last weekend of April, and see about basing it at Koyote Ranch. The only warning about staying there: it's a good idea after dark not to go back out on the highway. The stretch of road back over the mountain toward Kerrville is one of the most dangerous in the hill Country for deer encounters. The only place I've seen more forest rats per mile that I can recall, is the stretch between the old railroad tunnel and Fredericksburg on Old San Antonio Rd.
Traditionally (last three years ;D), one day of this event, usually Saturday, I lead the 750s--and usually at least one of the big dogs--on a ride on some back roads most don't get see, with a visit to the Lone Star Motorcycle Museum in Vanderpool, lunch at the Steel Horse in Tarpley, and a stop in Luckenbach just prior to returning to Fredericksburg. Dinner Saturday night is an on yer own kinda thing, but we've usually ended that day with dinner together at Chili's, next to Super 8.
A note on the VROC dinner and raffle; anyone planning on that needs to sign up on the DFWVROC site above. I haven't decided whether I wanna do it or not, altho this year's promises to be better than the last two or three; Mamacita's for 11 bucks is a pretty good deal.
For those coming in Thursday, we'll prolly get together for a short ride to dinner and a meet-n-greet around 6, and plan from there.
Current plan is the Twisted Sisters (FM335, FM336, and FM337), South Fork of the Guadalupe, and Stonehenge II on Friday, arriving back in Fredericksburg in time for the dinner, for those planning on that. The rest of us will prolly eat at Chili's, CiCi's Pizza Buffet, or one of the German restaurants in town; I'm still researching that.
Saturday will be a variation of the ride already described above, which is somewhat shorter, giving everyone time to rest up before heading back home on Sunday.
I'll post more info as it becomes available. Anyone planning on coming, give me a shout at: [email protected]
Be sure and let me know when you're coming in, where you're staying, etc.
