Cool Ridin from NY to Arkansas

I want to ride out to Arkansas to visit an old friend. Looks like I'll be going it alone from Upstate NY. Anyone have any advice, familiarity with the ride, good routes to take? I'd sure appreciate it. This will be my first trip going this far.

Thanks in advance!

Hey, is this your first long ride? I'm planning on leaving from Colorado and heading over to Chicago which will be my longest ride to date. Thats just about 1,000 miles via freeway, but I plan on taking the back roads if I can do it. If I feel like going farther, I might go to New Orleans.

My question to you is how do you feel about the vulcan seat? You doing anything to improve apon it? What sort of modifcations have you done so far to make your bike more distance friendly? I've added a windshield, plan on doing something about the throttle like a lock or rocker, but my biggest issue is the seat. What about you?
