Americade 2010 campsite???

We are planning to attend Americade this year. The initial plan is to trailer up our 17' Jayco. Does anyone have any experience with the local facilities? Can you recommend a campground, preferably with hook-ups, that would be nearby the festivities? Thanks...John.

JRW - I have registered for Americade and will be there Thurs pm-Sat noon with an A La Carte pass. Riding up from Syracuse and planning to pitch a tent somewhere nearby. Have signed up for the Friday am Vermont Bridges guided tour although I won't have the CB to listen in. Figure it should be a beautiful ride though. Will attend the Fireworks Friday night as well. Have you heard anything more about the local campgrounds?

Nope, just what I have seen on other sites. Google 'americade forum', select 'americade msg board' and check out 'accomodations' for some ideas. No plans by us, yet.

I would recommend Moreau Lake State Park. It is located about 15 mi south of Lake George Village just off I-87 exit 17S. I stayed there for the whole week of Americade the last two years in a Jayco Popup camper. (My wife had to work and she was kind enough to tow the camper there on the weekend while I rode the bike.) It was nice to have the room of a camper instead of just a small tent. There are no hookups, but the showers / bathrooms are relatively new and pretty nice. It is really low cost compared with other accomocations in the area. It only took about 25 minutes to get from my campsite to Americade acitvities and at the end of the day I enjoyed getting away from the crowds and traffic congestion of Lake George Village. There were quite a few other bikers in the campground especially towards the end of the week. Last year a couple of guys from Indiana riding a Honda ST and a Harley Touring bike were in the campsite next to me. We shared a couple of enjoyable evenings around the campfire. (They wondered how I managed to tow my camper with my VN750

If you want to expand your "vacation" beyond Americade acitivities as I did, Moreau Lake State Park also has of hiking trails, a beach and boat rentals on the lake. I enjoyed spetacular views of the Hudson River while hiking on a ridge overlooking the river. There are also a number of twisties in the area if you don't get enough riding at Americade organized tours.

JW - Did as you suggested and found Hearthstone Point State Campground. $22/night plus NYS vehicle entry fee ($6 ?). 2 miles north of the village on Lakeshore Drive. Good comments from those on the board and others on the web. Fills up fast apparently and most of the lake side (two sections straddle RT 9N) is just about booked. You can make a reservation in advance at www.reserveamerica.com which is the site NY state uses to reserve it's campgrounds.

Not sure you can find anything closer that's better/cheaper so I booked a site for my tent. Has Trailer dumping station but not sure about hookups.

Anyway, thanks for the steer, looking forward to it!

John,
See if you can hook up with the Central Jersey Motorcycle Riders Group http://www.meetup.com/central-jersey...-riders-group/ I know that there is a group from the CJMRG that is already planning on it and has a lot if good info. I may go up with the group but if I do I'll stay with my brother in Albany.

BTW where are you in Central Jersey?

R

Yes, it's my mid-life crisis.
