What parts to keep waxed (prevent rust)

For those of you who haven't really started to corrode yet and don't know where it's important, here are some things you need to wax.

Front Forks- pits will develop, letting in moisture and corroding metal underneath the clear coat, yes, they are painted as is the engine and almost all the other non-chrome metal parts.
Metal fittings at the end of the cables
Mirrors and fittings (goop it into the fittings)
Gage bezels- they appear the be sandblasted stainless and they do rust (trust me.)
Any other part that is painted an aluminum color, whether it is aluminum or steel, except hot parts of the engine (the wax will just burn off) Wax on Wax off

EVie came with an extended back rest and with the polishing wheel on the grinder and some jewelers rouge.. that baby matches up with chrome! Also sent the covers from the engine off to be chromed but they didn't make the cut-off in time. They did polish them up for me though.. Check em out inmy photo folder in the group *G*

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. The pitting didn't just happen over night and sadly enough you learned the hard way about regular cleaning and polishing of the bike. Course not knowing what different environments (salt air) can do to finishes is your saving grace. I would take a real good look at your forks too cause chances are they have developed some marks on them as well. As for fixing what has been done.. try some of the polishes like simi- chrome and maybe a fine steel wool. Some of the other polishing buffs (no pun intended) will most likely chime in with their preferences. If the pitting is too bad there is not much that can be done except maybe paint the rings. There is a brushed aluminum paint that might help it look good as new or close.
