For what it's worth (and this is a few years old data) the electrosport r/r at least USED to be better than the ricks style. This was, however, for the suzuki GS550 and part of it was that the ricks was "OEM style" and Electrosport had a better heatsink. Not sure if it applies to the VN750 though - or even if it still applies to the GS550.
I replaced both the stator and r/r on my GS550 with ricks and they both fried pretty quick (likely at least partially my fault due to still existing wiring problems with the 550)
