I think it's great to have the opportunity to buy back the bike you previously owned. I hope the last owner took good care of it for you...lol

Welcome to the group!

not really... the bike has spent most of its life in the North East of England, famous for its lack of sunshine & damp days.
the guy i bought it back from was a maintenance engineer, but the bike was in **** state when i picked it up, i had a custom stainless 2-1 exhaust made up with a proper collector box just before i sold it-it apparently rotted through-i've never seen marine quality stainless rot-have you?
it came with a nasty set of V+H pipes, no collector box just more or less straight through pipes, obviously the left hand pipe is shorter than the right, by about a foot, any idiot knows that you NEED equal length pipes for the motor to run smoothly.....

the VN is my everyday hack, much cheaper to commute on than my ZX12R and probably more fun to ride (i'm enjoying it anyway)

if i keep it long term then its going to need some work, probably do most of this to it.
head bearings,
slab yokes (triple trees in US English i believe?)
rear shocks, or lock up struts, or hardtail it
decent balanced exhaust system
paint job
might bob the back end,
deffinately going to have to sort out a new drive shaft as it lurches if you let the clutch out fast-finding one in the UK may be a problem
i have access to a decent lathe and milling machine, not sure if i can turn one in suitable hardened steel though.
(i'm a Motor Vehicle Technician in the local High School & ex custom painter, so there's not a lot i cant do to the bike)

although i might just wash it occasionally and ride it

aye, whatever.......
