New to the Forum
Hi, I just thought I'd drop in and say hello. I'm new to the forum. This is my first post. I've go to say, there are a lot knowledgeable people here and a wealth of valuable information. I was just given an 86 vn750 with 30,000km on it, by my cousin who works at a Kawasaki dealership(Triumph and BMW as well) here in Ottawa, Canada. This is my first bike, and needs a bit of TLC. The bike was stored over the winter with a full tank of gas and the petcock set to prime. I guess someone thought that was the off position. It was running prior to this winter. The bike has had some starting issues. Especially when it;s already hot apparently. There was lots of gasoline in the Oil. After changing the Oil and the battery with an MF, I was able to get it turned over and started, only firing on one cylinder and stalled after 5 minutes though. Was able to get it started a couple more times intermittently, with the same results. So I replaced the old fouled plugs with new iridium plugs hoping that was the problem. It won't start any more. So I pulled the carbs out last night and have started cleaning those. I hope cleaning the carbs will fix the starting problem. If not I guess next thing is to test continuity in the ignition system. I got myself a kawasaki manual and the Clymers manual and I think I'm off to a good start.
