New to me free bike

I just picked up my new to me 750. It was my brother in laws bike. He bought it new in 2001, put 416 miles on it and parked it. He offered it to me a couple of years ago but I never got around to picking it up. while I was there he said I might as well take his "Old Bultaco". It's another bike he bought, took it out one time and parked it. It's a 1973 with just 83 miles on it! The 750 is like new, it was covered with a blanket. The Tank has rust in it and will need going through as well as the carbs.

Can't wait to take that first ride!

Rick

Free is a good price

Welcome! Sounds like you lucked into a good set of wheels. There are lots of things that can happen to a bike when left sitting for a number of years, but generally nothing that can't be overcome with a bit of patience.

For a bunch of VN750 specific items to consider checking through, head over to the Vulcan Verses and do your homework. Otherwise, the members here are a great resource for individual questions.

Enjoy the new ride!

Welcome to the group, just curious though, it looks like you joined in February 2010 and this is your 1st post. What took you so long!

My Brother inlaw said he was going to give the bike to me back in 2010 and I joined the site thinking this would be a good place for information. Just took this long for us to get together and seal the deal. I need to go through all the suspect items like the "dry Spline" issue and the rust issue before I can start enjoying it.

Welcome to the Vulcan madness.
Don`t you just hate it when you go to pick up something with 2 wheels and end up bringing home 4?

BTW, where are you located?

Welcome. Best of luck with your free bike. I was given a free bike about a year ago, a 1985 Honda Goldwing 1200LTD. After about $2000 and several hundred hours of work, and a lot of frustration, I now have a good running bike I hope to get another 100,000 miles out of. Funny how "free" doesn't seem to stay that way very long.

I am a motorcyclist, NOT a biker.

Quick update:

Took the tank off and it was full of rust..I'm working on that issue. Checked the carps and they were clean. I filled both bowls with fresh gas, put in a new battery and she fired right up and ran smooth! So far so good. I really need to clean that tank and it should be good. After that I'm tackling the final drive spline.
