Hello from Mt. Olive, IL

I have been on here a few times but have not introduced myself. I live in the small Illinois town of Mt. Olive. I bought a used 2005 VN750 in 2008 for myself for Christmas. It ony had 500 miles on it and was basically a new bike. I have put floor boards, LED tail light, chrome oil and brade fluid reservoir caps, crash bar, and custom laser cut aluminum radiator grille on it. I really like the look and feel of the bike. I am 55 yrs. old and this is my first motorcycle. Great mid-life crisis!

Welcome, Rick. Lot of mid life crisis types here. You found the best place for info and help for your bike.

I'm keepin' all the left over parts. I'm gonna use 'em to build another bike!

Welcome. I'm 50, but have been riding since age 8. I currently have an '02 VN750, with just over 44,000 miles on it, and before that I had a '93 with over 80,000 miles on it. Both were bought new, and all the miles are mine.

If your bike only has 500 miles on it, now would be a great time to check/lube the final drive splines, before they get damaged. Seems Kawasaki never lubed the splines at the factory on every Vulcan 750 they ever built. If left unattended, they will chew themselves up. Jerry.

I am a motorcyclist, NOT a biker.

Jerry, my bike had 500 miles on it when I bought it. It presently has about 1100-1200 miles on it. Still a pretty low mileage bike. I will look into lubing the splines as soon as decent weather breaks here in Illinois and I can work in my garage without freezing. How many hours will it take me to pull the shaft and lube the splines?

that depends on your skill level, I am a Mechanic so it only took me under 1 hour taking my time. If you do not have good skils it may take you longer. A good trick was to put the bike on a 2X6 under the center stand, gave you more room t get the tire out.

My '89, acquired by me in 2008, had around 6,000 miles and the splines had never been greased but were OK. Took me a couple of hours the first time. Here is fergy's how to complete with pictures: http://pages.tstar.net/~fergy/vulcan.html
