vn750 trike

hi. about 4 months ago i bought a 86 vn750 trike. its got a robin reliant back end. im about to strip it right down and start again with it and with a new paint job. i thought this site would be an excellent place to ask questions if i get stuck with anything. im new to bike building and this is my 1st trike. i already know i need new front forks are mine are bent. anyone know where i could pick up a set from?

are there any other trike owners on this site. i would like to see what they have done to their trikes and im not 100% what im goin to customise it like yet.

cheers
richard

p.s. ill have pictures up soon of the trike as its being striped and put back together.

Welcome. Think AJCruzin has a set of front forks for sale unless he sold them recently. Send him a PM (personal message) to find out if you are interested.

I'm keepin' all the left over parts. I'm gonna use 'em to build another bike!

Now's a great time to put a heavier front end on - with air - if you can find something. I have two early gold wings in my garage - their forks look like they would fit w/some mods and give you air suspension and larger front tire capacity.

Welcome to the Vulcan madness richard. I believe you will be the first member of the forum with a trike. At least I have not heard of another, since I joined in August of 2008. I know our search goddess, Dianna, has a sidecar rig and edalbriss has some pictures of his hack in the gallery, but I haven`t seen a recent post from him in the past year.

When you put some pics up we need to see the mechanical workings of the back half this trike, not just the shiny stuff!! Good luck with the project. I`m looking forward to the pics. Just out of curiousity do you have a mc or auto tire on the front of the trike?

i cant seem to upload any photos up on to this site because it says my files are to big. so what im thinking about doing is making a website, something like a myspace and put all the photos up there so you can see the progress on the trike.
ive managed to strip it all down and the engine is out now. glad i stripped it because i found alot of nuts and bolts missing and pieces being held together by cable ties.
i have a mc tire on the front of the trike to.
i would like to say thanks to everyone who has shown intrest and has also given me advice on where i can get a front end from and different options i can go for.
next job on the trike is to strip all the paint work back on the frame. so im goin to be stuck in the workshop for a few more days.

Just a suggestion. Copy your pics to another file. Open the copies with Windows Pictures, Adobe Photoshop, etc. and resize them to a smaller size. Example: 512k down to 75k.

The Vulcan 1500A (Vulcan 88) front end fits the 750; steering bearings are the same. The 1500A steering lock is different, and you'll have to trim the 750 steering lock plate off the bottom of the 750 steering head.
