new Vulcan owner

Hello everyone I am a new Vulcan owner and need some help if possible. I just bought a '97 vulcan and just noticed a few issues that weren't there when I bought it the day before. Issue one is that she doesn't want to turn over with out being jump started which I realize may be the battery unless someone may know another reason. Also the bigger problem is when I do get her started there is a knocking that I am not sure were it is coming from but it goes away after she has been running for a while. Any advise would be appreciated.

This bike have a problem with the stator going out (generator).
The noise that you are hearing is probably the acct's (automatic cam chain adjusters).
Go to the vulcan verses for some answers.

Oh yes Welcome to the forum.

Is it still safe to ride the bike with this problem? How hard is it to do the adjustment?

Try the grambo trick. Must be done with engine off. This is ussually a temporary fix. Chances are is will not hurt to ride it like that, I do not recomend it.

Garage
where do you here the knocking? if its in the cylinders, and it is the acct its a pretty easy and cheap fix. the battery I would start by getting yours load tested, autozone can do it, if it is bad make sure you get an agm maintenance free battery.
if you get time add some stuff to your profile such as location and year of bike and stuff.
and welcome to the forums, I'm sure you will find it a great place to hang and learn while you are not riding, a lot of great people her.
