Fork parts

Hi, just found this forum looking for parts. I’m old so bear with me, this is actually the first forum I’ve been on.
My son in law has a 86 vn750. The fork seals were leaking so I’m helping him change the seals and caps out. As far as I can tell there’s never been anything done to them, so I wanted to completely rebuild the forks.
The ones I’ve changed out, I bought a kit that had new bushings, seats, clips etc. I can’t even find a bushing on line for these forks, let alone the new clips etc. all I can find are the seals/caps. Would anyone know where I can get a kit with all the normal wear items at? Thanks for any ideas.

Hmmm. . . . You sure you need all that stuff? I've done a few sets of forks now (some multiple times--don't ask ), and I've never had to replace clips and bushings. My bikes have been relatively low-mileage, though. They've suffered from benign neglect (dis-use), not over-use by any means.

If you're sure you want all new parts, have you checked Partzilla? I've found everything I've wanted there, but they're not fast and I wouldn't say they're cheap either.

If you've checked the usual parts websites and didn't see new bushings, used or new from ebay is probably all that's left.

There are some bushings at the top of this search link below, but make sure you're getting the correct ones, there are some listed that aren't compatible to the 750. The complete sets with clips farther down in the search don't fit the 750.

All years of the VN700-750 will be the same. You may already know this, but make sure to get the split in the bushings aligned correctly. Oil is full at 9" from the top, if I recall. (repair manual download in my signature at the bottom of this post)

Thanks, it’s got 19,000 on it but it’s suffered a lot of abuse. I’ll pull one of the forks apart and take a look but there was very little oil in the forks left and I just figured I’d do it all. The maintenance was.........questionable to put it mildly. We’re going over the whole thing. I appreciate the help.

Here's Andrew's video on fork service, he's got a 20-part engine rebuild too, along with the rest.

I vaguely recall one person on the forum replacing a bushing since I've been here.

I couldn't find 20w fork oil quickly, so I used auto trans fluid which is supposed to be 20w, and high detergent. My front end had much less bouncing spring action afterward.
