Unhappy OIL LEAK

HELLO ALL. NEW TO THIS SITE AND THE WHOLE FORUM THING TO BE HONEST. ANYWAY, I HAVE A 02 VN750 WITH AN OIL LEAK. IT DRIPS OUT RIGHT AROUND WHERE THE STARTER GOES INTO TO THE SIDE CASE. I HAVE REPLACED THE O-RING ON STARTER HOUSING, NO LUCK. I THEN REBUILT THE STARTER WITH ALL NEW O-RINGS AND SEAL. AND AGAIN, NO LUCK. ANY SUGGESTIONS OUT THERE???? THE ONLY OTHER THING I CAN THINK IS THE SIDE COVER GASKET, AND IF THAT'S THE CASE, HOW BIG OF A JOB IS THAT???? PLEASE HELP, IT'S COMING INTO PRIME RIDING WEATHER.

A common spot for the right side cover gasket to fail is at the top front corner where it covers the starter gear. Can usually see the gasket sticking out of the gap. Look through where the exhaust pipe is over the cover near the starter. My gasket wasn't broken, but had a gap big enough to stick a dime in. Had some pics but they're gone now.

Not a huge job, the brake pedal, footpeg, and front exhaust pipe has to come off. Ebay is the best place to get the gasket if there's one listed.

You're welcome.

I know of four bikes that had the gasket pushed out in that exact spot.
