Talking Hello to all of my brothers and sisters

I'm Randy from New Mexico . I recently became the proud owner of a 1985 VN700 Vulcan Cruiser. Got it for a trade through my local CL.
She has had quite a few issues since owning her . But I joined this site for 1 reason , and 1 reason only :
To thank everyone who contributed to the time consuming task of troubleshooting the common problems. You gentlemen , have gotten my bike running like Butter as of a month ago.
This bike stranded me no less than 5 times , all within a couple of weeks. I lurked on the forums for weeks trying everything I could , within budget constraints from the Boss, to get it running .
Thought it was poog , cleaned vent , no change
Thought it was not getting fuel due to leaky and malfunctioning vacuum petcock , 85 is the version WITHOUT off ugh, . Wasn't it and it caught fire when I got stranded and kept cranking it all ticked off ..
Hot start issue Everytime I went to put gas ..Well , what finally fixed it and got it running like new was a personal mod on the petcock and the acoil mod . I am completely convinced this is 75 percent of all of our issues .
Here's why I believe that: When I finally tore in to the wiring , I about fell over when I saw the very skinny and anemic red power wires to the coils! I said to myself , How in the heck can we be expected to crank an engine with those tiny things? NEVER seen it before on other bikes.
Did the mod , now like another guy said , I just LOOK at the button and it starts . And this is with an old acid battery. NO Agm!
So again Thank all of you who contributed !

Thank you all for the warm welcome .... I just have to say this : You guys RULE! Bunch of like minded individuals in the same place at once is becoming a rarity these days .

I also have a Suzuki GS450 , my starter bike , and since getting my first Kawasaki (always been a Honda for Japanese and Ford for American type a dude) I LOVE this bike . Love the way she rides , feels , sounds , and looks . Totally out of my element, buy just digging this Vulcan to the fullest .

I was totally going to go that route until the Boss said no dice on the cost . So I just did what I do best : Improvise.

Ran some new fuel hoses in a configuration that would help my problems . Also using t"s that were larger than the hoses due to some tips i learned from my uncle when i was young about how fuel flow works in these vacuum systems . Worked like a Charm .

Great intro post. Welcome. Get an AGM battery and iridium plugs anyway, though.

I have an 86, so I also have the old petcock. The prime setting is useful sometimes.

1986 Vulcan 750
Purchased June 2018, as a first bike.
Put 1,300 miles on it so far.
Location: Murfreesboro, TN

AGM Battery, Iridium Plugs
SeaFoam does wonders, and I'm protected by Ride-On
Back tire: Dunlop Challenger.
Front tire: Dunlop Challenger, but about to replace it with a Kenda Cruiser.
