Greetings from your humble bass player!😎🏍️🎶

Hi everyone. I’m Charlie from northwest Ohio. I’m 54 & finally took the leap & got myself a bike. A 1988 Vulcan 750 with 9550 miles on it! It’s in beautiful shape (not trophy worthy but still sweet.) I took a riding safety course sanctioned by the state of Ohio & learned a ton. I recommend taking a safety course to everyone I talk to. I’m looking forward to many many miles of biking pleasure!

Wow, this is your first bike and you're older than me! I'm 47 and just started riding 2 months ago (after having taken my New Rider course exactly 2 years before that). Congrats and welcome.

We also both have bikes built in the 80s, with low mileage (which seems like a good thing, but depending on the bike and the owner, could be a bad thing, I've learned). Mine is an 86 with about 7700 miles on it when I got it. And I've put over 900 miles on it in the last 2 months.

We're also both musicians. I play piano and sing, and I played low brass instruments when I was a kid. Bass guitar is on my bucket list.

So, welcome! Enjoy it, and this is definitely the right place for information. I come here nearly every day.

Thanks Readparse. I’ve flirted with getting a bike my whole adult life and after losing a brother to cancer 2 years ago I decided that as long as I’m living I’m gonna LIVE. Besides, at 54 I’m thinking the clocks ticking & if I don’t do this soon I never will. So I did it & there ain’t no looking back. 🙂

BTW, is there any way for me to set up my profile without going on Facebook? I can’t stand that platform.

Sorry about your brother. Riding a motorcycle can be a very spiritual thing anyway, so I think you may have picked a good one. There we be plenty of time out on the open road to remember the good times.

Welcome Charlie! I'm totally with you. I'm 57 and started riding 2 years ago after taking the course. I bought a 2001 750 with less than 5,000 miles and so far I put 11,000 miles on it. It's a great bike. There is a wealth of information on here about some of the bike's quirks that can save you in the long run. First and foremost, check your spline! (Forums > Technical Forums > Transmission / Rear end). Good luck and happy riding!
