Hey all

It's been a while since I've been on a forum, must have overlooked my manners.

As a new member, I have to make the obligatory statement that I've read-up on the site for a while. Passing curiosities. Now that that's out of the way, I come to you in my time of need. I haven't worked on a motorcycle in over a year, and I'm going through withdrawals.

Boston
Riding 2 years
Patched up an '85 Rebel sitting in 4 years of snow. Wiring isn't my strong-suit. I get it, I just run into trouble. The Rebel gave me a pinch in the crankcase that I doubt I'd ever have diagnosed on my own.I
Milling about in the outskirts of the city. I like time with my dog, drinking beers with friends, Rock 'n' Roll. Trying to get off-grid before a I start a family.
What brought me here? A nail in my rear tire begging me to buy up a replacement. Hoping to get something 150/90 in an 80/20 sort of on/off balance. Although, over the last few days of reading, I haven't seen anything fitting the bill.

My handle is the second half of my VN's name. The Rebel is Angziet, and I'll call her Angie. The VN is Prometheus or The Modern Lemonade. Some of you will get the reference.

Cheers,
All my best,
Light it up.

Thanks Roadie. Now all I need is for the forum to tell me exactly which jets to re-jet with and how to compensate for all the damage I'm about to do. That being said, I saw your write-up about re-jetting to 5% stock (I think?) and I am eternally grateful.

Hi ya!

Evidently, there is a difference from bike to bike with jetting.
I took the difficult route to try to figure out the balance between extreme lean and extreme rich.
Definitely didn't want the extreme lean as that has a tendency to destroy one's engine.
I've just hopefully completed my final jet change with a 40 pilot and a 140 main.
I'll do a test ride in a day or so but anticipate satisfaction.

Of course the jet change is only necessary on some bikes when doing the complete earshave and/or an exhaust modification. Each bike is different with such minute parameters.

Yeah, woulda' been nice if someone coulda' told me from the start which jets to use. Ain't gonna' happen.

Welcome!

As far as jetting goes, I just did the ear shave and straight pipe conversion, 40 and 140 are the jets i ended up putting in i believe. Really makes the bike feel more healthy. All you have to do is bump the starter and it roars to life. 😄
