Checking in

Received my 750 from my father in law. He didnít want it just sitting around covered in his front yard anymore. So far itís been a blessing and a devil child. Rr and stator were both shot. So I endured and pulled the motor and replaced the stator. I went with the rewound upg one and also did the mosfet upg and relocation to the rr and the ear shave. That is still all good with a nice steady 14.3-14.4v now.
About a year after all this the front cylinder decide to spring a leak at the base gasket. Yet another painful motor pull to fix this issue. Took the time while waiting on parts and pulled both front forks out and resealed them as they had also dry rotted and sprung a leak. Got it all slapped back together now and just waiting on warmer weather and new treads. Had to park it just before winter hit as the rear started showing threads on it.
I have a good amount of electrical background and some home garage monkey mechanical skills. Cheers all

Welcome!

Tell us what upg is, since TPE went out, we've been on the lookout for a good rewinder. Wille's Cycle/Cycletronics is one that I found.

I did find Universal Power Group, but only saw batteries there. Universal Power Group | Stay Poweredģ

Umm, apparently upg is also urban slang for unsolicited penis glance ..

upg = upgrade, I imagine. did you have to rejet for the ear shave? It seems to be kinda up in the air if you do or not.

Didn't think of that, and didn't see it in the search, makes sense now. Where did the rewind come from?

It's my opinion and experience, that jetting isn't needed until the pipes are changed, regardless of air filter used. I think you are asking me, since I don't see an earshave by the OP. I did not rejet, and the plug color says I didn't need it. Maybe I could be 1/10 sec faster if I jetted, but it's not needed.

Now, using the incorrect pods can block ports at the carb throat. Maybe that has caused people to go for jets, and the jets cover for the blocked ports, so they equate pods to making it lean by themselves. Because if you look around the internet, you'll see strong opinions against pods and people insisting a rejet is mandatory. So it's not just here, and I'm not disrespecting Fergie, I just don't believe it's automatically mandatory except with open exhaust.

I can take the air filter completely off a Chevelle, and not need carb jetting. But if I slap on a set of headers, it's going to run leaner. The Chevelle carb won't have those half-moon ports to muddy the waters.

It's in my signature, stock jets with earshave.

Yes by upg I meant upgrade. No I didnít rejet the carbs and havenít encountered any issues. I donít remember where I got the stator but I think it was an electro sport rewound brand.

Welcome. Those bikes are a lot of fun and very capable once you get it sorted out. I've traveled 1000+ miles on one (or 5) many times!
