Coolant leak Under engine

So I've recently discovered my bike to be dripping coolant from underneath the engine... I'm not too sure where exactly but seems to come from the torx bolt or the one seemingly sealed hole.... Anyone knows what goes on under here and what I should do to fix it?

The Mechanical Seal on the water pump shaft is leaking.

The unsealed hole (on the bottom right side) is there to let coolant leak out as an indicator when the seal fails. I think coolant may still leak into the oil.

Have to replace the Mechanical Seal.

What is the procedure to replace this? I read it was to remove the pipe and part of the subframe?

Also, anything else I should replace as preventative maintenance while I'm in there?

Don't think coolant and oil are mixing, they both seem to be in their respective pools....so far

Best to download the free repair manual, but it's basically, ... Remove exhaust pipe, footpeg/brake pedal, subframe, right engine case. Then remove water pump impeller.

The old seal gets destroyed in removal, as it involves picking, prying, pulling, cutting, peeling, tearing, to get it out. Have to be careful not to break the engine case.

I presume the coolant has to be drained for this procedure? And what about the oil?

Also, any other gaskets/rings that have to be replaced in this process? Other parts to watch for?

Drain oil and coolant.

Engine case gasket, clutch cover gasket if you remove (not required) that cover, o-rings on both ends of the coolant pipe. Double o-rings on each end.

Just did this gasket on mine for an oil leak. Got the gasket from Caltric on ebay, $10 shipped, and it got here quick from Calif., 3 days.

Here's how to avoid getting coolant into the crankcase when you remove the cover:

Drain radiator, be careful with the plastic drain plug.

Remove drain bolt under engine, beside the hole that's leaking coolant.

Remove the drain bolt at the bottom of each cylinder. Front cylinder right side, rear cylinder left side. Not much will come out, if any, depending when the engine was last started. I just stuffed a rag under the cylinder drains.

Do each step one at a time.

I left the chrome coolant pipe on the big side cover, so I only dealt with one pair of o-rings. This chrome pipe might need a slight bump toward the engine to seat it after the cover is bolted back on.

So I've essentially got the cover off, now I await the new seal to arrive in the mail. One more question, I am trying to pry out the seal, and scratched the aluminum a little. Will this hurt the bike? Also, should I use RTV on the new seal?

As far as the gasket goes, I'm thinking to use ultra blue RTV and call it a day.

Stupidly enough, I still managed to get some coolant down the crank case. I'm trying to pour cheap oil in with an open drain plug to push it out.

So as I was cleaning out what was behind the seal, this ring started to make its way out... What exactly is it?

I am also seeing some seals sold with a ring, and some sold as just the seal. What is the white ring that is sold with this seal?
