Engine won't start

I have a feeling there's a thread out there somewhere which addresses my issues, but I couldn't find it and after searching through dozens of pages I thought I'd post.

My 1995 v750 has been sitting for over a year and I can't get it started. The battery appears to be fine. When I connected jumper cables to the battery it would then turn over, but not start. I think I need to drain the fuel tank and the flush the carbs? I haven't done that before. I may also need to replace a spark plug or two as well, but there are plenty of online videos for that. I feel like kind of an idiot for posting this, but I've never done this myself before and am hoping to learn more about my bike. Thanks in advance and sorry again if this answer has already been posted a hundred times!

What is your bike doing if you are not trying to jump it. Does it turn over at all if you are not jumping it? Could be bad gas for sitting over a year. Charge your battery to full before you try again also check the bowl drains on both side of the carb and see if you have gas in there. I had a vaccum tube blockage once and caused the fuel to not get to the carbs. Just thinking of little things, I'm sure someone smarter than me will chime in any minute.

Don't worry!!, It's just a bump in the road.

yep, exactly what Matthew said. that gas is bad bad bad and the battery is very dead. an auto parts store will likely charge it for free if you don't own a charger. Drain the tank and fill the carbs with some seafoam for a couple days, then drain the bowls, put some fresh gas in the tank. that's what I'd do anyhow. carbs might need more work than that but it ought to help.

what's the make and model of the battery by the way?

I drained the tank and put in seafoam. I'll let it sit for a couple days and try again. Not sure about the battery type, I'd have to look, but I'll charge it. Thanks for the help!!

I just put my engine back in after it being out a year. Same problem. New spark plugs, new fuel, carb cleaned. The spark plugs have gas on them when i pull them out. Battery is on a boost box. Just turns over and over and over. No back fire or anything.
